Conceived by a team of talented international creators, co-produced and distributed by Submarine Channel, Ascent from Akeron is an ambitious interactive graphic novel that combines cutting-edge interactive digital storytelling with a compelling and atmospheric visual style. The project will consist of 10 interactive episodes and will be distributed as an app for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and as a web-based project. The project is currently in the first stages of development. We are currently producing a pilot episode. Ascent From Akeron is a story about the power of the human spirit and its ability to overcome oppression. It embraces the concept that storytelling and imagination can be enough to motivate people to act to improve their world. The story takes place in Akeron – an imaginary dystopian storyworld that sits on a small island, completely isolated from everything else. In this enslaved society, a group of heroic youngsters, inspired by their discovery of 'ancient' superhero stories from the 20th Century, decide to take their tragic fate into their own hands and attack the cruel forces that rule over Akeron. The interactive graphic novel is part of a larger transmedia project centered around the Akeron storyworld, in which we are deeply invested. Our aim is to attract and attach an audience to the storyworld and its characters. Future story platforms include a motion picture (trilogy), a comic book, and a website.
