Short description

SKY WATCHERS is a transmedia project imagined by Bridget Scarr and written by Bridget Scarr and Landia Egal, composed of a 8 episodes TV drama and a VR experience for mobile and room-scale head-mounted displays. Set in current days Ireland, it explores the journey of Jude, a 17 years old boy whose life and reality and suspended by the strange death of his father. Jude discovers that his father was the leader of ‘the Secret Society of Skywatchers’, a powerful and enlightened society using ancient wisdom to protect humans from the ‘shadow people’, a range of intelligent and evil spirits able to travel through inter-dimensional gateways. Jude needs to quickly learn to embrace this new world of knowledge to solve the mystery around the death of his father and help the society fight the dark forces threatening humanity. SKY WATCHERS is mainly directed at a young adult audience with an affinity for science and magic realism, interested in innovative narrative experiences. The genre can be qualified as contemporary fantasy, maintaining a fairly serious and dark tone throughout but containing elements of mystery, magic, mysticism and adventure in a coming of age tale addressing the serious themes of death, prejudice, the loss of innocence and self-discovery through adversity.

How innovative is the project

The VR project combines fiction and gaming. Technically, the VR project will use the last available hardware such as Gear VR controller, Oculus Rift controllers and/or other HMD functionnality available or to be released in 2017.
